We offer private Equine-Assisted Therapy sessions as well as the below projects in partnership with schools, PRUs and Prisons

One-to-one Equine-Assisted therapy at our stable

Equi-Zen is the name we give all our onsite, one-to-one equine-assisted therapy courses. Typically the course is once a week at our stables for around 10 weeks. During this time there’s a range of therapeutic activities to take part in with the help of our four-legged friends.

The sessions are non-ridden and with a focus very much on mental health and emotional exploration. They are a great alternative to standard talking therapies as they provide the same supportive space with educated staff but in an outdoor, relaxed environment. This can be perfect for teens who might not be keen to sit in a room discussing feelings but are happy to playfully explore different thoughts and emotions while interacting with our trained therapy ponies

Entrepreneurs Academy

The Entrepreneurs Academy is a truly unique project which revolutionises how we teach young people. Instead of working on students’ weaknesses we identify their existing strengths and support them through a journey of self-development over a three-phased plan. We cover several different learning styles from practical exercises, discussion-based activities and animal-assisted sessions.

Module one is called Business Basics and reflects on the differences between employed and self-employed career options

Model two is an 8-week equine-assisted therapy course to help them develop their mental health, emotional resilience and communication skills.

In model three students can apply for the opportunity to win a micro business start-up fund of £500 and three months mentoring. This is where the students can put their ideas into practice and run a real life, profitable (hopefully!) business which uses the skills they have honed over the previous months.

Mobile Equine-Facilitated learning courses

This is where we take our horses into schools, PRUs and even prisons!

This is a group activity for young people aged 8 and up. The course contains a series of challenge-based activities that require teamworking to complete. Keeping the focus on the horse’s reactions and the outcome of each challenge means the participants often lose themselves in the game and accept support from the team around them.

It’s been known for a long time now that learning retention is far higher when discovered through play, particularly in the absence of judgment. Our courses are challenging yet fun, the perfect mix for self-discovery and growth.

The course is 6 - 8 weeks long and can be tailored to each particular group.

We offer a limited number of fully funded courses but additionally, the course can be purchased by schools and other youth organisations.

Historical Projects…

SEND Vibe Project

Since 2018 OOC has been running projects in partnership with Chiltern and Woodlands secondary school to deliver a supplementary service for underprivileged young people, aged between 8 and 25 years with special educational needs.

The projects are aimed at improving social connections, vocational skills and job prospects for those who might struggle with the standard academic route. The project ran with huge success and was heavily supported by The Bedfordshire and Luton Community foundation.

In our 2019 impact report based on student, school and parent anonymous questionnaire feedback we were delighted to see the below results:

75% said their experience of Out of Class was outstanding and the remaining 25% said it was good

100% said that there was a marked improvement in the students in general with 80% specifying that improvement being largely in their confidence, ability to make new friends and an increased understanding of career options.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we have paused the running of the group Vibe projects and will look at opening spaces for students to attend again when it is safe to do so.
